How our service works

·
(Updated)

We offer three connected services. You can use one, two, or all three — in any order that suits you. This page explains what each one is, how they fit together, and what happens once you book.

The three stages

Most people will move through some or all of these stages. They are designed to flow into each other, but each stage works on its own too.

Stage What it is Who it’s for
1. Initial Support (pre-assessment) Short virtual sessions with a clinician, before any assessment People who are unsure whether they (or their child) need an assessment, or want to explore strategies first
2. Assessment A full diagnostic assessment for autism, ADHD, both, or cognitive People ready to pursue a diagnosis
3. Post-Diagnostic Support Structured 1:1 or group support, after an assessment People who have a diagnosis and want help applying it

You don’t have to do them in order. You can:

  • Book Initial Support and stop there
  • Skip Initial Support and go straight to Assessment
  • Book Assessment and Post-Diagnostic at the same time, so the transition is seamless
  • Book Post-Diagnostic Support after you’ve been diagnosed (with us or elsewhere)
  • Use just one stage and never come back — that’s fine

The system is built to support whichever path makes sense for you.

Stage 1 — Initial Support

This is designed for people who aren’t sure whether assessment is right yet. Some examples:

  • A parent wondering whether their child’s traits warrant assessment
  • An adult who suspects autism or ADHD but wants to talk it through before committing to a full assessment
  • A family wanting practical strategies regardless of diagnosis

It’s offered as a Single Session (£150) or a 4-Session Programme (£500). Sessions are 1 hour each, held virtually.

How to book Initial Support

  1. Book and pay on the website. No phone call required — you can self-checkout directly.
  2. Confirmation email arrives immediately.
  3. Our team reaches out within 72 hours to arrange suitable dates and times for your sessions.
  4. Sessions run virtually by default. If you’d prefer in person, tell our team and we’ll do our best to arrange this, subject to venue and clinician availability.

If Initial Support helps you decide an assessment is the right next step, your clinician can walk you through the booking process at the end of your final session.

Stage 2 — Assessment

This is the diagnostic stage — a full clinical assessment for autism, ADHD, both, or cognitive function. Each assessment type has its own page on the main website with the full clinical detail (tools used, session length, what’s involved). The booking journey is the same for all assessment types.

How to book an Assessment

You can book online yourself, or contact us first and we can talk you through the process and help set everything up. For security, we do not take payment details over the phone; the final payment step is completed by you through our secure website checkout. The checkout has four steps:

Step 1 — Service. Pick what you’re booking. The options are Initial Support and Assessments (autism, ADHD, combined autism + ADHD, or cognitive).

Step 2 — Post-Diagnostic Support (optional). If you’d like to add a Post-Diagnostic Support package to your assessment, you can do that here. This is the seamless route described in Stage 3 below — your clinician walks you straight from feedback into support without a separate booking. You can also skip this step and book Post-Diagnostic Support later if you prefer.

Step 3 — Preferences. Tell us:

  • Location — pick from our network of clinics across the Black Country and West Midlands, or choose whichever has the soonest availability. Some assessments are available online; we’ll show you the options.
  • Days and times — the days of the week and rough times that work for you.

Step 4 — Checkout. Enter your details (and your child’s details if the assessment is for them), then complete payment by card. Humm finance to spread the cost is coming soon, but isn’t available yet. Once payment goes through, you’ll see a confirmation screen and a confirmation email arrives immediately.

From that point on, the rest of the journey happens automatically:

  • Within an hour of payment — questionnaires and a consent form arrive via the secure patient portal (a link in your confirmation email lets you set up the portal account). Everything stays in the portal; we never send confidential information by email.
  • Once questionnaires are returned — a clinician calls you for a pre-assessment clinical call: introduces themselves, answers questions, talks through any risk concerns, and proposes appointment dates and a clinic based on your preferences. If our suggestion doesn’t work, tell them — we’ll suggest alternatives. Once you’re happy, the appointment is locked in.
  • Assessment session(s) — what happens here varies by assessment type. See the relevant article in this Help Centre.
  • Clinical review and multidisciplinary panel — your clinician reviews the case in depth, then presents findings to a panel which determines the outcome.
  • Outcome call — a quick 5-10 minute call from your clinician to let you know the outcome.
  • Written report — arrives in the secure portal.
  • Feedback consultation — a call of up to 60 minutes to walk you through the report and next steps.
  • Case closed — the clinical process is concluded.

For the full detail on questionnaires, the pre-assessment call, and the post-assessment process, see What happens before your assessment and What you receive after assessment.

If you want to talk to us before booking

You don’t have to. You can self-checkout if you’re ready. But if you’d like to talk to us first, we offer several ways — use whichever you find easiest. Some people prefer typing to talking, some prefer voice, and both are equally welcome here.

Text-based options (good if you find phone calls difficult):

  • Email — we aim to reply within one working day
  • Enquiry form — on the website

Voice options:

There’s no fee for any of these, no obligation to book, and we won’t take payment details on a call. The final payment step is completed by you on the website checkout, so your payment details stay private and protected. See How to book an assessment for full detail.

Stage 3 — Post-Diagnostic Support

After diagnosis, we offer four routes for ongoing support:

  • 1:1 Exploring Autistic Identity Programme — £800, six 1-hour sessions with a dedicated clinician
  • Exploring Autistic Identity Group — £600, six 1.5-hour group sessions for teenagers (small group of 6-8 peers)
  • Flexible Ongoing Support Sessions — £150 per session, 1 hour each, no commitment
  • Family support sessions — priced separately, ask us

You can book Post-Diagnostic Support two ways:

Route A — at the same time as your assessment

When you book your assessment, you can add a Post-Diagnostic programme to your booking. This means the transition is seamless: during your feedback consultation, your clinician will walk you through how Post-Diagnostic Support fits with what they’ve just found. You don’t need to book a separate appointment or speak to a different team.

Route B — after you’ve received your diagnosis

If you’d rather decide once your report is in your hands (or if you were diagnosed elsewhere), you can book Post-Diagnostic Support at any time. The journey looks like this:

  1. Book and pay on the website.
  2. Confirmation email arrives immediately.
  3. Our team reaches out to arrange suitable dates and times.
  4. Sessions run virtually by default. If you’d prefer in person, tell our team and we’ll do our best to arrange this, subject to venue and clinician availability.

If you didn’t have your assessment with us, that’s fine — we may ask to see the report (with your consent) so the clinician supporting you has the context they need.
